iTunes 11.0.3

The new iTunes mini player looks fantastic. This is what it should have been from the start. The song progress bar is something that I wanted so badly. The way Apple has implemented it is subtle but it works. I don’t need a lot of information, just a quick glance to tell me how much of the song is remaining.

The other cool little feature is the album art mini window. I don’t know how much I’d use this view but it does look nice.

Oh man. This is awesome.

An Engineer in Hell

Heard this one yesterday. You don’t have to be an engineer to find it funny.

An engineer died and reported to the pearly gates. An intern angel, filling in for St. Peter, checked his dossier and grimly said, “Ah, you’re an engineer; you’re in the wrong place.”

So the engineer was cast down to the gates of hell and was let in. Pretty soon, the engineer became gravely dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and began designing and building improvements. After a while, the underworld had air conditioning, flush toilets, and escalators, and the engineer was becoming a pretty popular guy among the demons.

One day, God called Satan up on the telephone and asked with a sneer, “So, how’s it going down there in hell?”

Satan laughed and replied, “Hey, things are going great. We’ve got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and there’s no telling what this engineer is going to come up with next.”

God’s face clouded over and he exploded, “What? You’ve got an engineer? That’s a mistake; he should never have gotten down there; send him up here.”

Satan shook his head, “No way. I like having an engineer on the staff, and I’m keeping him.”

God was as mad as he had ever been, “This is not the way things are supposed to work and you know it. Send him back up here or I’ll sue.”

Satan laughed uproariously, “Yeah, right. And just where are YOU going to get a lawyer?”

May 14, 1804: The Louis and Clark Expedition Sets Out to Explore the Louisiana Territory
On this day in 1804, the Corps of Discovery (more commonly known as the Louis and Clark Expedition) left Camp Dubois near St. Louis, Missouri to explore the Louisiana Territory.
For $15 million, President Jefferson’s 1803 purchase of the territory had more than doubled the size of United States: 820,000 square miles for 3 cents an acre. Jefferson chose his personal secretary Meriwether Lewis to serve as commander of the expedition. Soon after, Lewis invited his former army comrade William Clark to share command. Nearly four dozen men comprised the original group.

Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies will be a digital-only release this fall

Capcom announced that its newest Phoenix Wright game will release to the U.S. and Europe this autumn, but only as an eShop game! The company’s SVP Christian Svensson explains:

“Sorry guys, but a physical release is not in the cards.

Historically it’s been tough to attract long term retail support for Ace Attorney titles. With the release of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies we wanted as many people as possible to be able to enjoy the game for as long as possible. With that in mind we have opted for a digital-only release via the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

I understand that this decision may upset fans who wanted to have a physical version of the title to add to their collection but we believe this direction is the best to take.

We will be confirming details on the price point in the not-so-distant future which I hope will also shed more light on the strategy at play here.”

At least the publisher didn’t just skip the Western release altogether (like it did with Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth 2), I guess? Anyway, watch the first English trailer past the break:

I am 100% fine with this. I just want to play the game. Maybe just maybe if this gets enough support, Crapcom maybe will possibly consider bringing over Ace Attorney Investigations 2. But it’s Crapcom so I’m not holding my breath (again).

“It’s pretty much all improvised,” he [actor Beck Bennett] explains.

I love hearing that. These commercials are legitimately funny and the fact that they’re unscripted makes me love them even more.

Great story.

Well that’s only slightly frightening.

I love the Amazon items that are so crazy that people take to the reviews and just have a good time. I stumbled upon a $60 book called A Million Random Digits with 100,000 Normal Deviates and some of the reviews are fantastic!

Here are just a few of my favourites:

To whom do I write to report typographical errors? I noticed that the first “7” on the third line page 48 should be a “3”. The “7” that’s printed there now isn’t random. Other than that, this is really an excellent book. -fanfan, 5 stars

Such a terrific reference work! But with so many terrific random digits, it’s a shame they didn’t sort them, to make it easier to find the one you’re looking for. -a curious reader, 4 stars

…does anyone know when they are planning to publish a sequel? I can’t stand the fact that it feels so unfinished! -M. Kuhl, 3 stars

The book is too hard to follow, the author randomly shifts from one number to another without any prior warning. -ponifex, 2 stars

This is an old version - no good for metric countries. I’d have to go through each number and subtract 32, multiply by 5 then divide by 9. Does anyone have a macro for this? -Ewen Wallace “CAD Bloke”, 1 star

Do yourself a favour and browse through the reviews. They’re great. The best part is that everyone else just plays along, too!

It’ll get better. I know it will. I mean, how could it not? You care so deeply about me. Your love is endless. You desire to talk with me, to be with me. But if I know all that is true why do I still feel this way? Why do I feel there’s still something missing in our relationship? I’m trying. It’s tough. So many set backs. So many times I’ve failed. So many times I’ve turned my back and pretended that no one was there. But then, those times when I find my way back, those are the most joyous times. Those times when my heart is filled with so much joy and love. Yours, too; filled with love, compassion, forgiveness. It’s been a struggle. I’ve fallen short. But I know that things will get better. I know it will all work out. Sometimes it’s just hard to see how.
